'Getting' HIV
Toronto -- With respect to Mark Wainberg's welcome address to the Canadian Association for HIV Research (news -- May 1) and your editorial (May 2): When did it become so difficult to understand that a virus (HIV) that destroys the immune system renders the victim susceptible to infections that might otherwise be contained by a functional immune system?
A big concept, sure -- almost as hard to grasp as that crazy idea that immortal cells cause cancer! Thanks for the support, though.
